The pistachios further allow an increased intake of essential nutrients and promote a healthy pattern of diet as they are a complete protein.
In the study, it was noted that both the groups lost significant weight, which was about five percent weight loss. Their weight circumference reduced alongside their body mass index (BMI). The body mass index and waist size not only indicate obesity, but additionally, they are indicators of diabetes and heart diseases. However, the above benefit is the only similarity observed in both groups. The participants consuming pistachio in their diet showed other benefits, including increased intake of fibers, lower diastolic and systolic pressure, and lower consumption of sweets than the control group.
Further, the pistachio group exhibited increased antioxidant carotenoids of lutein in blood, the healthier ratio of saturated fatty acids to polyunsaturated and mono-unsaturated fatty acids, and alpha and beta carotene. These phytonutrients are also an excellent source of vitamin B6 and fiber.
