After shutting down over COVID-19 diagnosis, Tom Hanks’ Elvis movie to resume filming
Due to the lockdown, every movie and production house has seen setbacks for three month and they are waiting to slowly start filming in the summer and latter part of the year. When the beloved Tom Hank and his wife Rita Wilson were tested positive for COVID-19 while they were acting in the biopic movie of Elvis Presley, this shocked everybody in the industry and many of the initial plans of Hollywood production houses was altered. When this news was announced in the mid-march that the movie was delayed, the crew started to pack up too.
Considering the current scenario, it looks like the film that revolves around Elvis Presley and Colonel Tom Parker, his manager, may continue in Australia soon. This may be ahead of its release date in fall 2021.
Annastacia Palaszczuk, Queensland’s Premier, met with Baz Luhrmann regarding his return to work. As of now safe plan is being created for the biopic along with other productions.
According to her, everybody wants to start shooting again but it is very important that all measures are taken properly as the government insists on it. For The King, there is no release date now, however, Screen Queensland and Queensland Health are working towards getting in one.
A few days ago, permission to shoot movies was provided to Los Angeles but along came tons of restrictions like crew must wear masks, rewrite sex scenes or leave them or adjust them using CGI. And considering the subject matter of this film, it would be very tough for the production as Elvis Presley’s life comprised of fans and large gatherings.
The director further said that on the day when the Elvis film was shut down, the actor of the movie, Austin Butler was in the middle of “hundreds of girls kissing Elvis.” Now, the time will tell whether Baz Luhrmann got what he desired for that particular scene or not. Even though Gold Coast is in a lot better condition than the USA, something like this is unlikely to happen under Australia’s requirements.
Since 2013, this untitled flick will be Baz Luhrmann’s first movie since The Great Gatsby. Earlier the movie was supposed to release in June 2021 but now its release date has shifted to November 5, 2021.
As to Hanks and Rita Wilson, in the wake of having coronavirus for two or three weeks in March, the two totally recuperated came back to their home in Los Angeles, and have been giving plasma to help the exertion for health experts to find a cure/ vaccine.
Tom Hanks next is a World War II drama Greyhound. The movie is coming on Apple TV+ on July 10.
