5 Steps Immunity Boosting Routine to start your day on a healthy note
With the increasing spread of the pandemic disease that has taken millions of lives across the world, more people have started showing interest in adopting a healthier lifestyle in order to boost their immunity. It is a healthy immune system that fights any seasonal diseases and infections, even more so during these times. The way your day is started defines your mental and physical state not only throughout the day but also in the long run.
Sheryl Salis, a nutritionist, diabetes educator and wellness coach says that immunity is built over a period of time by making changes in your lifestyle and not in a single day. This could include having a basic routine for the entire day, consuming nutritious food, and incorporating some sort of physical activity in your routine.
“A healthy morning routine is ideal for people who wish to have a productive day, especially when they are required to chase a bunch of tasks,” she says.
Here are the 5 simple steps Sheryl Salis suggests one should follow in the morning, in order to increase their immunity:
Doing the ‘Balasana’ or the ‘child’s pose’ just after waking up helps relax muscle stiffness in the morning and improves the flow of blood to the brain. Perform this yoga asana while sitting on your bed, holding the position for as long as it is possible. Thereafter, sit upright and perform basic breathing exercises. It helps relax the mind and boost bodily functions after a night’s sleep.
Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic technique that involves swirling cold-pressed virgin coconut oil in your mouth for about 5-7 minutes. This method is recommended by experts as the lauric acid in the coconut oil breaks through the fatty layer of bacteria in the mouth, killing them. According to the AYUSH Ministry, it is an excellent method to boost immunity if done on an empty stomach immediately after waking up.
To detoxify your body, drink 2 glasses of water in the morning.
Additional Tip – add half a lemon, ginger, a pinch of pepper powder, turmeric and fresh cinnamon to make a DIY immunity drink!
A fit and healthy body is the key to a strong immune system. Exercising regularly in the morning ensures that your body is physically ready for the rest of the day. It also improves its strength, stamina and flexibility. For starters, begin with a basic workout such as cycling or running, gradually incorporating strength training as well.
A WHOLESOME BREAKFAST
It is crucial to include a combination of healthy foods such as dairy or eggs for protein, fresh fruits and vegetables for carbs and fibre in order to eat a wholesome breakfast, the most important meal of the day.
Additional Tip – it is a great habit to consume 2 teaspoons of extra virgin coconut oil along with your breakfast to drastically increase your immunity. It can also be added to your morning smoothies.
So, how many of these steps will you include in your morning routine from now on?
